The Catacombs are built etween the late 14th and early 15th century, when the town experienced remarkable political and cultural development. The powerful Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić wanted catacombs to be made as the final resting place of the Hrvatinić family. The Catacombs (underground church and the crypt) are underground buildings carved into the solid rock 6m under the ground.
By order of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, they were registered as national monument in 2003.
