Baščaršija is Sarajevo's old bazaar and the historical and cultural center of the city.

Sebilj

Baščaršija as a major tourist destination in Sarajevo cannot be perceived without Sebilj and the pigeons on the square around Sebilj that are an attraction for tourists, children or passers-by.
The Sebilj public water fountain, frequently called "the Pigeon Square", is a pseudo-Ottoman-style wooden fountain (Sebil) in the centre of Baščaršija square in Sarajevo built by Mehmed Pasha Kukavica in 1753. and relocated by Austrian architect Alexander Wittek in 1891.
When visiting Baščaršija, local and foreign tourists  always walk to Sebilj, take a few photos by the fountain and also on the square filled with pigeons, sit in one of the nearby little cafés and have Bosnian coffee or other refreshments, have ćevapi and enjoy the view of the Baščaršija square.
