Tomislavgrad is located 36 km southeast from Livno. The city has been settled since the ancient times and numerous findings indicate that this was the centre of the Illyrian tribe Dalmatae – Daelminium. Today, the town is named Tomislavgrad in the honour of King Tomislav who was crowned at the field of Duvno in 925.

The climate is very harsh with cold and long winters and hot, short summers. The 2 thirds of one of the largest reservoirs in Europe - Buško Blato, which is abundant in fish, is located at the territory of this municipality. Duvanjsko field has huge deposits of coal. There are only two small rivers - Studena and Šujica flowing through this area.
