The Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos is one of the largest Serbian Orthodox church in Sarajevo as well as one of the most beautiful and largest in the Balkans.

The Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos is one of the largest Serbian Orthodox church in Sarajevo as well as one of the most beautiful and largest in the Balkans. The cathedral is devoted to the nativity of the Theotokos.

Between 1863 and 1868, it was erected at the request of the Orthodox parish of Sarajevo. The church has five domes and it is developed as a three-section basilica inscribed in a cross-shaped plan.

The domes are built on the beams, for example: the central one is much larger than the other four side domes. However, this amazing church is gibbous by some round elements. Similarly, in front of the entrance, the smal belfry is built.

The walls in the church are decorated by ornaments that are painted. So, in the lower zones of the walls, those ornaments are simulating the marmoreal stone construction look.  It was constructed by Andreja Damjanov.

All in all, he is a man from the Damjanovi-Renzovski family of master builders, masons as well as painters, carpenters and stonecutters from the village of Papradište near Veles.
