Žitomislić Monastery

Žitomislić Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery sittuated near Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This beautiful church is devoted to the Annunciation of the Mother of God.

The Ottoman Empire, in 1566, represented by the kadija in Nevesinje, approved the family  „Miloradović-Hrabren“ a permission to construct  monastery. In 1606, the monastery took more than forty years to finish with the initial reference to monks at Žitomislić.

This monastery blustered an artistic iconostasis, as well as housed a scriptorium of considerable activity and renown in its time. Žitomislić Monastery was supported by large land holdings worked by the monks themselves.
