Situated on the southeast slopes of the Majevica mountain, the city of Tuzla is known as economic, scientific, cultural, educational, health and tourist center that occupies the central area of northeast Bosnia. Many buildings from Ottoman times, built as memorials by prominent Turks, have remained in Tuzla. Gazi Turali Beg Mosque with a stone minaret is one of them.
The mosque was built in the period between 1548 and 1572 in Tuzla, but it was badly damaged due to the sinking soil which led to the tilting of walls and minaret. For that reason the Gazo Turali Beg Mosque is completely reconstructed in 2007. The new project has a contemporary look, but still retains the authentic elements of the old mosque.
