Trams in Sarajevo

The tram network in Sarajevo is one of the oldest Europe's, having primarily served as the test line for trams from Vienna.

The system of Sarajevo trams consists of seven lines. First of all, running along a single track route. It serves as an east-west link from the Baščaršija to the Ilidža.

Opened on New Years Day in 1885, the Sarajevo tramway was the testing line for the tram in Vienna and operated by horses. In the 20th century, the trams played a main role in the growth of the Sarajevo city. 

During the war, in the mid 1990s, trackwork and multitudinous vehicles were damaged. These are once again operational though marks remain on some vehicles.
