It is section of the Tuzla Canton, of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The uprise of the name Živinice is still not established.
The name "Živinice" was mentioned in one Turkish document as "Živinice called Uskopči in nahija Tuzla".
There are nine elementary schools and two high schools. There are also monuments such as statue of Josip Broz Tito as well as the monument of dead fighters of Bosnian War.
