One of the favourite local dishes in the Balkans is burek. In fact, burek in Bosnia refers only to the meat pies while the rest of the pies are called pita. It is a layerd pastry filled with meat. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, burek is a source of national pride and people are desirous to share their recipes and opinions on the dish with foreigners. It is also made in the countries such as Croatia and Serbia. 

Each type of filling gives the pita a different name. For exapmle, pita is filled with meat is called burek, with cheese is called sirnica, with spinach is zeljanica, with potatoes is called krompiruša. It is rolled in a spiral or can be lined up straight and it cup up into sections for serving. If you buy burek directly from bakeries, you will get them in the original rolled-up form. If you ordered Burek in a restaurant, they will slice it up into pie sizes like the above for easy consumption.
