Traditional handcrafts, Baščaršija

A large number of mosques, synagogues, Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches that have been built and have stood side by side admist Sarajevo, giving the city its unique beauty is what makes this city the „European Jerusalem“.

Baščaršija, the heart of the Old Sarajevo, brings you back in time and gives you a glimpse into Ottoman Sarajevo where each street is dedicated to another craft, a place with interesting traditional metalwork, jewellery, and pottery shops. 

The most famous and one of the oldest streets in Baščaršija is the Kazandžiluk street (Coppersmith street), which was once a part of a larger copper craft guild and today is the place where you can buy unique traditional souvenir, copper products like pots and plates, decorated using special technique passed down through generations.
